Went on a Business Trip

Last week. for a whole week. But although I  brought my sketch book, but I was too lazy to go out of my hotel (believe me, that's not because it was super comfort or anything, it was just because i'm in the middle of some cool online streaming drama ).

The hotel has a gigantic tent as its lobby room. So here's a sketch of it :

the lobby

The hotel was attached to a shopping mall,  I went there and found this little shop selling scary cool stuffs for spell and wizardry. Too bad the tarot reader lady wasn't in. and i didn't bring my sketch book. Argh. a story so plain without sketch !

cheerio.

Rolls Royce (sketch)

yesterday i read this cool articles about toy model cars in collector's weekly . I remember those times when i was in high school (yeah, about 12 years ago !), i fell in love with F1 racing cars. Those amazing speed racers brought me to know about other cars too. Then I bought several cheap toy model cars -- like Audi a4, beetle, and few others. I gave those toys to my baby cousin, btw. A decision i've always regret until now (evil me).

Then i found this article, showing few great pictures of model cars made around the 30's to 70's that I enjoyed so much, I couldn't resist the temptation to have a memory about it.
Considering i don't have any money to buy such luxurious toy -- not to mention it's a rare one, i decided to just make a sketch of it. Although it's definitely in 2D and lack of details, still this sketch made me smile during making, and even after it's finished.

that's a sketch of a Rolls Royce steamauto model by J.P. Hartmann, Paris 1975.

Even from just a picture, the details are unbelievable ! really really love this model ! i don't draw the driver statue, because  i can't.

oh, and the back tire was a mess, but still i'm loving this.

see ya !

in Bali ! (sketch)

Here's the thing,

if there's anything that i love from my job right now, is the chances that  occurred for several times for me to go all around Indonesia *yiey*
I've been to Kalimantan (Borneo Island) for many times, Sumatra for several, Makasar once, Manado once, Surabaya (in Central Eastern Java -- lame geography knowledge) once, and just last week I was in Nusa Dua, Bali --- and it's all for work ! Despite of it was for work instead of holiday, still, those trips are just so fun to do *not to mention free travel and accommodation*

So, the conference I attended was quite big, held in a pretty big conference hall too. Inside its huge interior, they put this giant statue made from coins (you know, ones that shaped like old coins, with hole in the middle ?), and i tried to make a sketch of it, of course, i failed. aahahahhah i didn't use my glasses, and there were too many people -- i can't stand the noises. This just means i need to do quick sketch more often.

*haven't made any research about her*
that's a picture of one of this gigantic statue. She wasn't supposed to lean on her side like that, it's just me with my fully wrong technique. ahahhahah.

the conference itself was pretty busy, i didn't get the chance to draw often. Lucky we were invited for a dinner in Garuda Wisnu Kencana  .

Pity, it was a dinner. At Night. I can't see clearly. Plus - again , many excuses - there were artificial lights shooting extravagantly confusing here and there for the sake of performances held there.

so here's my night interpretation of Garuda :
*meant to be* Garuda
Although he's pretty cool, imho, but still, this isn't the right him.

and here's Wishnu who was supposed to ride on Garuda's back.

a view of Wishnu from the dinner venue
They were currently separated, due to the postponed project until nobody knows when. *sigh* He looks ugly in here *deep sigh* , go check the wikipedia link I provide before, to know how does he look like.

until next trip ! *or sketch*

Ghost Towns of Montana (sketch)

i've never been to Montana before, but the stories i've read of all the ghost towns there, abandoned after the gold rush era, just keep making me promise to myself, one day, i'll visit one of it. *amen*

I always picture Scrooge McDuck everytime I read something about Gold Rush. And that's including this ghost towns of Montana. I can see McDuck in his younger days, walk around one of these abandoned streets, carrying his tool alone -- ignoring all the people who mocking him for his ambitions.

*sigh*

I drew this from one of the image i found on web. I'm not sure which town, and I can't read my own writing there.

but anyway, here it is :

Montana
Montana have their official travel site, mentioning about ghost town here. and i guess this building here is the same as that one picture on that site.
Was it a school ? should there be children playing on the field beside it and hide and seek on hills behind it ?

i don't know, ahahahah.. but anyhow, have a good day to you !

Aqua - Duck

no relation with the real aqueduct.

my company is about to make a Duck Farming training program in West Java, as part of our CSR progam. And as usual, i'm part of the team (consisting of only two), who's in charge to make themed t shirt.

i'm not in the mood for corel, so i decided - selfishly - that i'll draw the duck, the other guy who'll deal with corel and stuffs. *evil smirk*

so here's the duck !

the duck of the aqua-duck

saying bye !

Sketches of Yogya

I had a holiday with Nadya. We went to Yogyakarta, Central Java.

well, the trip itself wasn't too fascinating for common tourists, i supposed ... we didn't visit main tourist attraction. What we did was only shopping at Mirota Batik in Malioboro (my favorite place for shopping spree ! ), and walked for 45 minutes on foot - just to go to a goat soup deli.

I lived in Yogya during college. And the trip was my way to get back to the good old memories, more than 4 years ago. I'm sad that the sketches i made during my time there, wasn't survived - i lost them, somehow. And my trip couple days ago, wasn't long enough for me to capture places i want to re sketch. Phew.

nevermind, they say, in every dark clouds, there's always a silver lining (cmiiw).

so here it is :

batik painting lady @ Mirota Batik
first sketch, the lady who's painting batik.
Have you ever tried ? Batik painting (or in this term, pattern making using liquid candle, before goes on to colouring process) is a really relaxing activities. I used to join a short one day class of batik painting in Jakarta. Be it a handkerchief or scarf. I'm not an expert, unlike this Lady here, but surely, that is just so fun to do.
Oh and this is not a live sketch, Nadya took a pic of her, and asked me to make a sketch from it. So, thanks to her !

go on with this one here :

view from hostel room
we stayed at a cheap hostel, near tugu station. The facilities wasn't really ok, but we basically don't really care. they have a swing for two and a pretty nice little park full of trees in the inner court.
after making this sketch, i realized, i was never good at describing plants. haha.

a view at tugu station
Nadya insisted, that we must take trains. I don't mind, i always used trains as college student. so that's the sketch of view from our seat while waiting for our train to go back to Jakarta. It didn't captured the real ambiance, imho. But life must go on *sob* , i'll make better ones next time.

Nadya. on our trains to Jakarta
that's Nadya. sitting on our chair, on the way back to Jakarta. she was wearing a batik headband we bought at Mirota. She told me, she looked like the heroine on Ghibli's movie "Kiki Delivery Service" because of that headband.

So, that's all.

cheerio.

Old

so,

this September of 2012. many many years since i first got my first cassette album, a second hand Boyzone's A Different Beat.

yeah. i was a fan of boybands *blush*, should say i am still one.

i remember, after the hype of fell in love with Backstreet boys, then comes Westlife, i realized, geez, i can't listen to boyband and girlband anymore ! i've grown up ! (was around 15 at that moment :D)

so i bought myself a Matchbox 20's album, goes on with Alanis Morissette mtv unplugged.

You know, there were times - a long long time ago - when MTv is really all about what the acronym stands for, Music. not like now, attention seeking teenagers -_-''

however,

since this file sharing got pretty serious in killing album productions till now, i can't find another cassette to buy. not anymore.

i started to buy cd, although i have no objection with that (besides the price tag T_T), i still miss listening music through cassette.

so to entertain me once more, i started my "the month of cassettes listening". :P
started with Bryan Adams, Trik Turner, Hoobastank, McFly, Josh Groban, etc.

and i fell in love once again, to the good memories when i was still in a rock band, living far from home for school, have no money, and yet was so happy.

thank you, dearest musicians :D you have all my respects.
although some of you may not making albums anymore (i miss Haven), but still, your legacy will last. amen.

Semakin saya tua, semakin banyak saya lihat kematian

Pepatah old fashioned yang tidak pernah out fashioned. Selalu begituuuuuuu aja.

belum pernah ada teknologi yang bisa bilang "hey, Ara, umur kamu sampe ..... ya."

kapok saya.
dan sedih.
